Attorney Alen Kaneshiro WINS Hirokawa Case

Serving Families Throughout Honolulu

ALOHA

Aloha, I'm Nick with A-1 Bail Bonds. In this issue of "Jail Mail" we'll discuss:

1) Jury find defendant Michael Hirokawa NOT GUILTY on all charges
2) The role of local media in covering the Hirokawa case
3) Video recap of the case

This week, Michael Hirokawa was acquitted of all charges of second-degree attempted murder, kidnapping and three counts of first-degree sexual assault.

The local media leveraged publicly released police footage to sensationalized the horrific details of Hirokawa being found asleep in his bed, hands and forearms bloodied, after mysteriously assaulting a companion he met earlier that night at a hostess bar.

When the circumstances of the night were fully investigated weeks after the event, Hirokawa's strange behavior was confirmed to have been caused by the victim slipping a combination of LSD and ambien into a glass of wine consumed by the defendant.

Immediately thereafter, what was a calm and romantic interaction, turned into a chaotic and unwanted psychedelic episode, where Hirokawa only remembers snapshots of being attacked and defending himself in a drug induced rage.

After the defense submitted evidence from a toxicologist confirming only Hirokawa's wine glass tested positive for LSD, a hallucinogen, and zolpidem (also known as Ambien, a prescription sedative), it became apparent that the attack was involuntary.

Judge Paul Wong accepted the jury’s verdict acquitting Hirokawa of all charges and thanked them for serving. “You went above and beyond,” he said.
